Did any of you get to enjoy UM at the taste last night?
Fun show, really awsome to see them play the Taste, one step closer to seeing them play the Pritzker Pavillion in Millenium Park. Thats my dream, thats a place to rage face.

Anyways here are the sets from Milwaukees summerfest. Was supposed to catch that one, but due to lack of ride, had to miss it. That hasn't happened to me in a long while.

Umphrey's McGee - Safety In Numbers - In Stores April 4, 2006
I know it's old news but...

Umphrey's McGee is proud to announce the release of their third studio album, Safety In Numbers - in stores nationwide on SCI Fidelity Records, April 4, 2006! Produced by UM and their long-time engineer Kevin Browning, and recorded in the band's hometown of Chicago, Illinois, Safety In Numbers features eleven amazing tracks, including many never-before-heard songs.

With special guest musicians Huey Lewis and Joshua Redman, and cover art from renowned album designer Storm Thorgerson (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, etc.), Safety In Numbers represents the next step in the growth of Umphrey's McGee.

So, what do you think the songs on it will be?  I mean, other than the opening of the album which is confirmed to be Believe the Lie.

Ticket prices
Umphrey's ticket prices lately have really been urking me. $60 for NYE was a bit sketchy, are they gonna keep raising thier ticket prices $10 every year? I don't really have too much a strong argument for that other than Phish NYE tickets didn't even cost that much (before they were playing arenas)
but thats not a big deal, I had no qualms about spending that for NYE, my real issue is this; They are playing the Chicago Theatre on March 10th, and they are charging $32.50! That's pricey, most of the times I've seen them has either been free or $15.
Where is this $10-$15 extra charge coming from? Those are without the ticketbastard surcharges. I'm now paying $40 to see Umphreys. grrrrrr.

Also it just dawned on me that they are playing here in chicago the same time as Langerado...and they are playing langerado too. Not that the decision is real hard, I mean if I go to langerado I get the benefit of not only seeing them, but everyone else too, but I also miss a rare performance at the Chicago Theatre, and that is one of the few venues in the chicago land area I have left to hit.

So yea...whats the deal with the ticket prices?

I missed 12/30 cause I had to work, heard it was decent, but last night was insane. I was right in front of the soundboard, I was wearing the pink ruffled 70's tux (if you saw me, you'd know it) and people all around the area kept dropping like flies. First some kid musta been tripping on some good acid, he was running...running through the crowd, half naked, his boxers kept falling off so he was running up to chicks damn near exposing himself, pushing people over and jumping over them, finally security came and tackled his ass, witihin minutes, some girl who was nearby who seemed to be perfectly fine just dropped cold. Half an hour later some other kid dropped too. Some crazy drugs going around and people not being careful.

Second set was the shit, Ocean Billy>Glory>Ocean Billy, was definitly a great segue. Encore was great too. The chick that did the part for Great Gig in the Sky, wow. Ripped it up.
Anyone know who the chick and dude were, they got some good fuckin voices.
Hope you all had a good time, I look forward to reading some stories about NYE, and happy new years to you all.

NYE surprise?
I hit up this bar every tuesday called Keegans. It's located here on the southside of Chicago in Beverly. Every Tuesday the band Leadfoot plays. Some weeks ago I recognized a gentleman in attendance, and it just so happened to be Greg Rzab. We talked for a bit and then went our ways.
Well, tuesday night, he showed up again, and he remembered me, we ended up partying all nite till 4am. Had quite the conversations with him.

For those of you that don't know who Greg Rzab is, he's joined Umphrey's a number of times. The first time I seen him was 12/30/04, He jammed with 'em with buckethead. At the time I had no idea who he was. I saw him again at the Skyline show with Ray White from frank zappa's band. He played again at U of I. If you haven't seen any of the shows, just google Greg Rzab, this guy has some crazy history.

Anyways, back to the point. I asked Greg what he was doing for NYE, he said he had no plans and asked me where the party was at, which bought a big smile to my face. I told him Umphrey's and he thought for a minute. I mentioned that Kellar will be playin with him and that left him with a smile on his face. I told him he should definitly think about joining Umphrey's again cause last year they did a sick jam. He said if he can't come across nothing better (what could possibly be better than umphreys NYE show?) he'll just show up.
Related to that conversation we were talkin about Mike Gordon playing with Kellar Williams, which led into conversation about Bill Kruetzman playing with Mike Gordon and Trey Anastasio which led Greg to ask me the weirdest question.
"Is Trey outta rehab yet? How's his playing been since?"

Greg jammed with leadfoot for a bit too, we were doing shots, an he was gettin all nervous about goin up and playing, which was weird, cause being a musician myself I know that nervousness, but its different cause...I dont have name recognition. This is guy was Buddy Guy's bassist for 12 years. Throughout the night he would just start randomly telling stories about playing with Stevie Ray Vaughn, Buddy Guy and others too.

Moral of the story. Greg is an awsome guy and it is POSSIBLE, that he may make a surprise appearance at Umphreys again this year. Lets hope.

Much needed.
Community has been dead for awhile, theres been much to talk about yet I haven't posted much. I'm working 2 jobs plus going to school full time, so I'm always busy and don't have as much time as I'd like. So, if anyone would like to co-mod with me (I plan to start becoming more active in here again, sprucing up the page design and posting more info or rumors on here pretty soon) shoot me an email.

In other news...well old news actually.

Halloween week I was shopping for my halloween costume at Ragstock (a thrift store) down on belmont ave. in chicago, and shopping there at the same time was Vince Irwinski (Umphrey's manager). He was buying his costume as well. I'm assuming it was for vegoose, I really wish I had stopped him and chatted with him briefly but oh well. He was buying himself a jailers costume. Fun stuff.

Has everyone seen the New years DVD yet? Lotsa memories flooded back, but some really good songs were cut out. Copyright issues I would think.

New years 2006 is creeping up on us pretty fast. Make sure to get your tickets (I'm one to speak. I still need to get mine)

Umphrey's Podcasts
Is anyone addicted to the Umphrey's McGee Podcasts on their website that they post every month?  I am.

I now consider it my new way for of introducing people to the band.  If no one here has checked the podcasts out yet, I suggest you do.  The sound quality is great and they usually pick very unique shows/jams and mix them all together into a nice 70-80 minute podcast.  They keep 4 up at a time.  Podcast #9 just came out and it features a 35 minute Nothing Too Fancy and also a Much Obliged with Al from moe. on guitar.

From big summer classic in schaumberg Illinois, on the first day. I was really stoked to meet the guys, I met Ryan, Jake and Kris. They were all really cool people, talked to Jake and Ryan about the show they played on July 4th, and the awsome "Over the Rainbow" they did, and I had a long conversation with Kris about Treologic (I pimped them awhile back...around the time of Summercamp...Kris was supposed to join them onstage) so we talked about that and upcoming August shows. It was definitly awsome meeting them, I often wondered how I'd react and everything, I was down to earth and so were they. Cool guys!
